The TBCPOA has been in existence for over 40 years and meeting monthly since 1988. It is a fraternal organization open to all chiefs. Navy, Coast Guard, active, reserve or retired. We meet on Thursday evenings. For current meeting information we encourage you to check out our page on Facebook TBCPOA. Spouses are welcome as are guests. The majority of our active members are retirees. Our most “senior” member is Chief Bill Monfort. Bill is a survivor of the attack on Pearl Harbor. Born 17 Dec. 1916, Bill still attends military functions and lives in Clearwater with his daughter, Neppie and son-in- law, Don Alexander.
The TBCPOA also provides charitable support to the Cornerstone Family Ministries and partners with the Seabee Veterans of America Island X-11 supporting the Robert H. Jenkins Jr. State Veterans’ Domiciliary Home in Lake City. Back in the “day” the association sponsored the Chiefs Initiation where meaningful training was gained by the selectees learning, leadership, trust, teamwork, and Naval history. Of recent years we have assisted the Sun Coast CPOA in a lesser roll with the 365 program. Members of the Association also help clean up Hackney Cemetery in Riverview. This labor-intensive activity is before patriotic holidays.
Each year, the Tampa Bay Chief Petty Officer's Association rewards a local deserving young student. This Scholarship is a $1,000 scholarship payable at $1,000 in one lump sum. or in two $500 increments over a two-year period.
Any college or graduated/graduating high school student who is a TBCPOA member in good standing (MIGS) or a legal relative of a TBCPOA MIGS and who is currently or will be enrolling in an accredited college, junior college, university, or trade school for the year beginning in September. The enrollment may be in a curriculum of any number of years but the scholarship will not exceed two years.
